I have always thought that Obsidian notes would lag when they reach a certain amount, so I have been constantly separating new and old notes for storage. However, today I accidentally discovered a solution that allows me to open the software immediately and enter content without experiencing seconds of lag.
It turns out that this problem is caused by plugins when building indexes.
After disabling the "Omnisearch" plugin, the effect was immediate.
In addition, I also disabled the Chinese word segmentation plugin "Word Splitting for Simplified Chinese in Edit Mode and Vim Mode," which was the root of the problem.
Many times, we tend to blame insufficient software optimization for problems, or think that too many notes will cause lag. However, through this experience, I understand that sometimes the root of the problem is not as we imagine.
The plugin building index cache is the culprit of lag. By simply disabling it, I solved the lag problem that has plagued me for a long time.
Once, this problem made me frustrated with Obsidian, and even made me want to find other note-taking software to replace it. I seemed to see Notion eagerly waiting: welcome back to my embrace.
But I don't want to, the fundamental problem with Notion is not whether the data is saved offline, but the input is not smooth enough. For writers who want to fully match the speed of handwriting, any slight lag will affect the typing rhythm and interrupt the flow of thoughts.
This discovery has inspired me deeply. When facing problems, we should not be self-righteous or too quick to blame the software itself for optimization issues.
Instead, we should analyze the root of the problem more meticulously.
Sometimes, a simple action can solve problems that have plagued us for a long time. This experience has reignited my passion for Obsidian, and I firmly believe it is still the best note-taking tool for me at the moment.
In the process of using software, constantly exploring and trying new things may lead to more unexpected discoveries and solutions to problems.
Let's keep an open mind, be brave to try, and believe that there is always a solution to problems.
